Worry

“The voice in your head is like a wild horse taking you wherever it wants to go…When the voice in your head finally stops talking, you experience inner peace.”~Don Miguel Ruiz

It seems like if I could only do this I would be so happy. How do you stop all the nonsense in your head. There is always so much going on in there, mostly worry, worry about all the stuff that I have no control over…I tell myself this and I still have the worst anxiety.
Is there special tricks that you do to help calm your mind from all the needless worry? To me it isn’t needless and that seems to be my problem.
Any suggestions???

That's a great quote, too bad, as you say it's easier said than done. I wish I had some great advice to give you, but all I can do is sympathise. It is hard to keep out the negative, confusing voices - I guess we just have to keep on trying.

Hmmm...advice.
Ok, I just watched Dr. Wayne Dyer's new program on PBS...CHange your thinking, Change your life. I would say get this book and see if it helps. I love his advice...and I am sorry you are worrying. Try meditating and maybe after a year or so, it will be better. I understand that it takes a year...so I don't know how good of an advice that one is....nah, I would the book for some short term relief. I am sorry you are worrying...Oh...start a gratitude journal...and remind yourself instead about the good things in your life. Maybe that will quiet some of the other thoughts.

@Stacie -- you crack me up.

@Denise -- monkey voices will take you down every time. I visualize them as real monkeys (weird I know) and then mentally put them in a cage and leave them there for awhile. (Monkey Time Out). It's kind of funny -- but it helps me think consciously -- monkey voices -- and makes me laugh and know I'm worrying over nothing.

Another strange comment... ::grin::

I tend to dwell on whatever it is that is making me upset or mad. Every time, someone looks at me and says "what's wrong?" and I realize I am so transparent. So I find that if I start thinking about what I find most interesting and exciting, something I can control like an art project, going to buy something or do something that would make my or someone else's life better, I feel better. When I think of those worries about things I can't control, I start a want list "If I could have anything right now, what would it be?" I also have an "idea list", a "things to make someday" list, and every day I write a "today's priority list". It is the open and unfinished things that make me crazy and make me feel like I am accomplishing very little. But if I can finish 2 or three things in one day, that's a good day and it keeps my mind too busy to waste any time falling into the negative mindset. The negativity always rises to the top when I haven't got enough to do that I find more exciting than worry.

Dear Denise,
I just read through your posts and see we have alot in common.I too wonder how to stop my mind from taking over all the time.I find the most peace when I read Krishnamurti's books.He will not hand you the tools but does put you back on the right track.And that is like always back to basic:letting go and find peace within yourself.
